Dear Maud Review
If you ever find yourself struggling to pick a cute date night spot, look no further than Dear Maud.
This bar can be found tucked away from all the busy bars on river street and nestled on the corner of first and garden. You won’t miss the beautiful sign and green floral decorations lining the outside as you walk by. Once you walk in, there are beautiful green plants and décor lining the walls and ceiling with a beautiful dim lit ambience making this place very cozy and comfortable.
The bar is ginormous and is a full wrap around bar where you can usually find most seats filled. As you make your way through this restaurant, you will be shocked at how it keeps going back farther and farther. As you make your way through the restaurant, you will find high tops, huge booths for large parties and even a smaller bar all the way in the back.
During regular operating hours, you will need a reservation to get a seat at one of the tables or you can take your chances and hope for a seat at the bar.
My boyfriend and I came here one Friday night for a casual date night and lucky for us, it was also happy hour.
We placed our order and date night was under way.
Drinks
Margarita Picante
I’m sure you know me by now and know I’m not passing up a spicy margarita, especially if it’s on the happy hour menu for only $9.
I ordered the Margarita Picante and it was delightful. Was a nice blend of sweet and sour and of course wouldn’t be complete without a tajin chili rim.
This margarita didn’t blow me away but also didn’t disappoint. I would say the only thing that bothered me was that the tajin rim only took up about a quarter of the glass and it would have been nice if it covered the full rim. Other than that, a solid spicy margarita.
7.2/10.
Apple Old Fashioned
My boyfriend is a big whiskey guy, so his go to choice was the apple old fashioned.
He thought they were delicious and proceeded to knock back 3 of them. Now, I’m not a big whiskey drinker so to me, all whiskey tastes the same, but according to him, it was really good and sweet, and he definitely tasted the apple.
I can’t agree because when I tasted it, it just tasted like regular whiskey to me.
Food
I’ll preface this by saying this place is not known for its food. It’s really more of a cocktail bar with small shareable plates but whatever it was date night, so we decided to give a few a try.
Bowl of Fries
The fries were decent. They were tiny and crispy which I like but were a bit too greasy for my liking. Oh well.
6.3/10
Buffalo Chicken Bites
I had higher expectations for these, but they fell flat. They were chewy and I wasn’t crazy about the sauce they used either.
4.0/10
Crispy Chicken Bao Buns
I looooooove bao buns and there were a few different bao options on this menu, so we decided to try the crispy chicken ones. The chicken was good, but I believe the bao bun was actually homemade and felt a little undercooked for me. Maybe I was there on a bad night who knows.
4.5/10
Overall Rating
I highly suggest coming to this place if you want to have a cute date night or go grab drinks with a friend for happy hour. Maybe get food somewhere else before or after visiting this place but definitely come to this place if you’re looking for good, cheap drinks, off the beaten path.
